A UNIVERSAL CELEBRATION OF PEACE, JUSTICE, AND RENEWAL

March 21 marks International Nowruz Day, a timeless celebration of renewal, harmony, and the arrival of spring. Rooted in the ancient Persian civilization, Nowruz has flourished for over 3,000 years, transcending borders and cultures to become a shared human heritage. Recognized by UNESCO in 2009 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, this occasion serves as a powerful symbol of unity, peace, and respect for the natural order.

Nowruz is not merely a cultural tradition but a profound testament to human interconnectedness and shared values. Celebrated across Iran, Atghanistan, Tajikistan and at least ten other countries-including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and parts of India and China—it embodies the principles of solidarity, renewal, and justice. The UN resolution establishing International Nowruz Day calls on nations to preserve and promote its rich traditions while fostering awareness of its universal ideals, which deeply align with the fundamental principles of human rights, equality, and social justice.

On this occasion, the International Commission of the Gilan Bar Association, the International University College of Turin, and the EqualEast Association extend their warmest greetings to people around the world —especially academics, legal professionals, civil society and all those committed to promoting justice and human dignity. We believe that the core principles of Nowruz—balance, renewal, and respect for the rule of nature-serve as ethical and legal cornerstones for building resilient, just, and responsible societies.

As we welcome a new year, may the spirit of Nowruz inspire greater peace, equity, and cooperation among all nations.
