Since October 2023, for three years, the International University College of Turin contributes to GreenPaths, a Horizon Europe project that aims to improve the design, governance and implementation of green transition policy strategies, with particular attention to the European Green Deal, the Fit for 55 package, and actions funded by the Just Transition Fund and the European Social Fund+.

Among the various issues considered within GreenPaths, the specific IUC contribution focuses on the green handling of food, land use and agriculture, bringing together legal, institutional and policy perspectives on how food systems can support a just transition.

What is GreenPaths?

GreenPaths – “European Knowledge Hub on Just Transition Pathways” – is a Horizon Europe research and innovation project that combines advanced analysis with case studies and stakeholder engagement.

It seeks to map and explain links between policies, environmental sustainability and social well-being, and to identify and assess indicators and tools that capture the interactions between climate, ecosystems and social justice.

From Mapping to Case Studies

The project began with a broad mapping of policy–impact linkages using existing European and national indicators and databases.

This first step informs the refinement of an analytical framework, which then guides 15 strategically selected case studies covering diverse national and regional contexts and issues, followed by an in‑depth analysis of institutional, regulatory and legal mechanisms and structures.

Towards a European Knowledge Hub on Green Transitions

The case studies generate new empirical evidence that helps assess the relevance and usefulness of current policy frameworks, tools and indicators, and feeds into recommendations for more coherent and socially fair green transitions.

The project will conclude with the launch of a permanent research and public information network – the European Knowledge Hub on Green Transitions – to support dialogue between researchers, policymakers, civil society and local communities.

Through its work on food systems, land and agriculture, the IUC contributes to ensuring that just transition pathways remain attentive to everyday life, territories and communities, and that legal and institutional frameworks help protect both environmental sustainability and social well-being.
