The Buy Better Food campaign for sustainable food on the public plate

For over a decade the International University College of Turin (IUC) has taken active part in the Eating City platform and now fully supports the Buy Better Food campaign to enhance the standards of public canteens across the European Union.[web:151][web:157]

The campaign focuses on public food procurement as a driver of healthier, fairer and more sustainable food systems, in line with the EU Farm to Fork strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals.[web:151][web:154][web:155]

The Sustainable Food Procurement Manifesto

The Sustainable Food Procurement Manifesto, promoted by the Buy Better Food campaign, calls for the establishment of minimum mandatory criteria for public canteens across the EU as part of implementing the Farm to Fork strategy.[web:153][web:154][web:155]

It proposes seven key target areas that go beyond ā€œgreenā€ public procurement: healthy food, organic and other agro‑ecological products, support for small‑scale farmers, climate action, decent working conditions, fair trade, and animal welfare.[web:153][web:154][web:155]
